January 2009

The semi-finals of the girls’ U.18 B Championships took place at Malahide Community School on Saturday 17th January.  While the girls failed to win either of their pool games, they performed extremely well in both matches but in particular against Listowel which has a long tradition in girls’ basketball.  Congratulations to the team and their coach, Ms. Neasa O’Halloran.

BASKETBALL REPORT:   SEPTEMBER - DECEMBER 2008

During the first term of the school year, basketball fixtures and leagues are focused on the senior (Under 19) and intermediate (Under 16) girls and boys.  The girls’ and boys’ teams this year have been coached by Ms. Neasa O’Halloran and Ms. Edel Maher (girls); and by Mr. Riley Price and Mr. Simon Kenny (boys).  Riley has also introduced the First Year boys to the finer points of basketball, while Ms. Jennifer Williams has been doing a similar job with the First Year girls.

The girls and boys teams have been assigned to leagues in opposite directions!  The girls were so successful over the past two or three years that they were up-graded to a higher division this year.  The boys, on the other hand, having struggled at their level for a number of years, were assigned to a lower division this year.  At Under 19 level, the girls have performed admirably and have qualified for the semi-final stage of the Region.  The Under 16 girls, with a smaller group from whom to select their team, have found the higher level more difficult.  The boys’ teams, especially the senior ones, have been much more comfortable in their new division and are progressing well through their section of the league.

This is the list of results over the first three months of the school year:
