May 2009

Having already qualified to do so, Rockwell represented Co.Tipperary at the finals of the National Chess Z Championships which took place in Limerick on Wednesday 29th April.  The team of Simon Chow, Lorenz Kopp, Michael Jiang and Ugo Tanielian finished in a creditable fourth place.

The Senior Team and the three Novice Teams played in the Chess-Z Chess competition against Abbey CBS Tipperary.
The Senior Chess Team of Simon Chow, Lorenz Kopp, Ugo Tanielian and Andreas Bariseel won 4 - 0 and presumably have now qualified for the National Chess-Z finals in Limerick in May.
The Novices 'A' Team of Kenneth Fung, Javier Menendez, Carlos Martin and Fermin Astigarraga played two matches and won 8 - 0.
The Novices 'B' Team of Gibran Abdo, Antonio Lopez, Javier Toribio and Conor Tierney won their match 3.5 to 0.5, all winning except for a draw by Javier Toribio.
The Novices 'C' Team of Pau Crespi, Jose-Luis Ceballos, Mateusz Czerniak and Timo Boehlke won their match 4 - 0.

19 March 2009
The Senior Chess Team of Simon Chow, Lorenz Kopp, Michael Jiang and Ugo Tanielan played Kilmallock in the Secondary Checkmate (Dublin) competition and won 3.5 to 0.5. The first three had wins and Ugo had a draw. We have now qualitified for the National Finals in Dublin in May.

March 2009

The Senior Chess team of Simon Chow, Jorge Zaera, Michael Jiang and Ugo Tanielian scored a decisive 3 - 1 win over High School Clonmel on Monday 9th March.  Simon, Michael and Ugo won their games.

 

January 2009

Rockwell played Bruff in the first round of the National Chess Z Competition on Thursday 15h January.  Rockwell won by 2 ½  to 1 ½ , Lorenz Kopp drawing with his opponent, Michael Jiang and Andréas Bariseel winning their matches.  Simon Chow, the fourth member of the team was beaten in his game.
