Rockwell winners were: Keelan Maher, Willie O’Dwyer, Aidan Barron and Michael Morrissey. IRISH SCHOOLS STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP.
Played in Rosses Point on Tuesday, 22nd. of April our team finished 2nd. to Sligo Grammer. Coming into this final we were ranked 4th. with a combined handicap of 7 but on the day we performed with distinction. In fact we were 4 strokes ahead of Sligo in the back 9, but local Knowledge won out. St. Peters of Wexford finished 3rd. and Campbell of Belfast were 4th..There were very strong winds and with pin placements on the very front of the green playing conditions were as difficult as Augusta, Georgia for the Masters.Even players off +1 and scratch failed to break 80 and only two players managed to do so. ROCKWELL SCORES: David Ruddy-79, Paddy Butler-81, Neil Farrell-85.
APRIL 8TH. 2008. Rockwell win Munster Schools strokeplay Championship.
Played in Fermoy on a bright but cold day our team played very consistent golf to defeat Cobh who boasted a 2, 2 and 5 handicap golfers. David Ruddy ( capt.), Paddy Butler and Neil Farrell each shot 74 to finish on 224, 6 strokes ahead. Each of these students played superbly and when pressure was exerted early on, particularly on the first when David struck a tree from his tee off, they kept their composure to make some very difficult birdies. We now look forward to the Irish finals which will be held in Rosses Point on the 22nd. of April where we meet Campbell of Ulster, St. Peters of Leinster and sligo Grammer of Connacht.

Our annual “Ryder Cup” style competition against Cahir began on Tuesday 27th September in Cahir with the “foursomes”. Here we began well, winning 2½ - 1½. Brain McEvoy (7) and Neil Farrell (6) won their match as did James Nagle (16) and Sarah Crowe (15). Paddy Butler (5.4) and Luke O’Callaghan (5.1) halved their match while Ross O’Dwyer (8) and Eoin Delahunty (14) lost theirs. The first round of the Irish Schools Championship took place again in Ballyneety on the 26th April with only one school to qualify for the Munster Finals out of 26. Our players performed exceptionally well but again we came up short finishing 2nd to Crescent Comprehensive, Limerick with a score of 229 to their 223. Our players on the day were Paddy Butler (4.1) 77; Neil Farrell (5.4) 77; Brian McEvoy (5.8) 77 and Ross O’Dwyer (7.1) 75. All of these players will be with us next year so we are hoping to go one better then. In March of this year we were lucky to have Jim Burke, a professional who has played on the European Tour, give lessons to 40 golfers over the following three months. He was an invaluable asset coaching both the experienced and uninitiated alike and we would like to sincerely thank him for his contribution to golf in Rockwell College .
