U-19 Hockey – Munster Final Win
On Thursday 23rd of April, Rockwell’s U-19 girl’s hockey team faced St. Angela’s from Cork in the final of the Munster Senior Hockey Cup.
The match began at two o’clock in Rockwell. From the beginning it was clear that this was going to be a tough encounter for both sides. The teams were very evenly matched throughout the game. The visiting team had the majority of the possession in the first half but failed to take advantage of this due to a very strong defensive effort by Rockwell. It was 0-0 at half time.
After an inspirational team talk at half time Rockwell stepped up a gear and really began to challenge the Cork defence. Credit is due to St. Angela’s goal keeper who made some fantastic saves to deny Rockwell the lead on a number of occasions. With the second half drawing to a close, and the score still at 0-0, the tension was growing amongst the players and supporters. Eventually the whistle was blown for full time, meaning that 15 minutes of extra time would have to be played.
In the first half of extra time after a long period of attack Rockwell were rewarded for their efforts with a fine goal scored by Emma Wilson. Rockwell dominated much of the second half of extra time with Louise Quinlan scoring Rockwell’s second goal from a short corner. Eventually the final whistle blew! The final score won Rockwell the cup with a 2-0 win. Congratualtions to all the players involved who trained hard all season, and many thanks to our coaches Ms. Patrique Kelly and Mr. John Ryan who put in so much time and effort over the year!

HOCKEY REPORT - SEPTEMBER TO DECEMBER 2008
The girls have been busily engaged on the all-weather pitch preparing for their various competitions, some of which have begun already, but many of which will not be completed until well into next term. Rockwell has teams at Under 19 and Under 16 levels, as well as teams at Under 15 and First Year level. Thanks to their success in recent years, the Under 19 and Under 16 teams have been placed in a higher grade of competition this year, and given the strength of their opponents this year, they have been performing very well at this level. Ms Patrique Kelly has been in charge of these teams along with Mr. John Ryan who comes into Rockwell on a number of evenings each week. Ms. Fiona Noonan continues to look after the Under 15 group of girls, while Ms. Elaine O’Sullivan has the task of introducing the game to the First Year girls, most of whom have never played hockey before coming to Rockwell.
While much of the term has been spent skill-coaching and team-coaching the girls, there have been a number of matches already and these are the results of them:
