The annual Tipperary Schools Under 14 competition took place in Rockwell on Wednesday 20th May. Played in terrible conditions, Rockwell entered two teams. The stronger of the two teams was entered in the Cup Competition and did extremely well reaching the final against High School Clonmel. The Clonmel team had a clear win in the final. The weaker of the two Rockwell teams played in the Shield Competition and did well to reach the quarter final stage of the competition.
The annual Under 14 tournament for the Fr. Leahy trophy was organised again this year by Newbridge College. The host team was joined on the 6th May by teams from Rockwell, Glenstal and Roscrea. By virtue of their points total, Newbridge qualified for the final automatically. Rockwell and Roscrea, however, finished the pool stage on equal scores, and because Roscrea, unlike Rockwell, had scored a goal (1-11 to 0-14), they were deemed to be Newbridge’s opponents in the final. Rockwell will now have to concentrate on winning the Tipperary Schools’ Shield which will be played in Rockwell on Wednesday 20th May
