Athletics 2010-11

The Munster Schools indoor athletics championships took place in Nenagh on Tuesday 7th March.  Rockwell was represented by three athletes.  In the Junior Boys’ Shot, Liam Fahey finished in second position.

There were two competitions held recently in which three Rockwell students participated.  The East Munster Cross Country Championships were held at St.Augustine’s Dungarvan on Friday 29th January.  The Tipperary County Championships took place at Thurles on the 2nd February.  Cliona Doyle, having obtained 2nd place in the Senior Girls race at the East Munsters has qualified for the Munster Cross Country Championships which take place in mid-February.  Lorraine Doyle in the Minor Girls, and Liam Fahey in the Junior Boys each finished in 19th position in their respective races, but as only the first 15 qualify from each Region they will not be participating in the Munster Championships.  In the Tipperary races, Cliona finished in third position, while Lorraine and Liam finished tenth and fifteenth respectively.

Rockwell was represented at the South Tipperary Schools Cross-Country Championships held at Clonmel on Wednesday 24th November.
Cliona Doyle won the Senior Girls (6th Year) race.
Lorraine Doyle finished second in the Minor Girls (1st Year) race.  Oonagh Hynes was 7th, and Johanna O’Sullivan finished 14th in the same race.
Liam Fahey finished 10th in the 2nd Year Boys’ race; Charlie Manton finished 16th, one ahead of Brian McKenna.  Jack Tobin finished 28th.  The boys’ team finished 5th overall.
