Rockwell girls narrowly lose out in 2nd. Munster final.
Munster Senior B hockey final: Ashton, Cork 2 Rockwell 1
Played on Friday, 13th. in Rockwell this final had it all. The pace was frenetic throughout with two superbly fit teams contesting this final. Ashton were seeking revenge for their defeat at the hands of Rockwell in the cup semi-final, and were quickly ahead, scoring in the 12th. minute. Try as they might Rockwell could not break down a superbly marshalled defence.
The score remained 1-0 until 8 minutes into the second half when Amy Sweeney scored from just inside the circle. Rockwell almost went ahead with two very close efforts. However, a breakaway by Ashton resulted in a goal. Rockwell now applied all the pressure and camped in the Ashton half but were unable to unlock their defence and so it finished 2-1 to Ashton. This Rockwell team is very young and will only lose two players from this team, so under the tutelage of John Ryan from Golden should go on to better things next year.
