Tennis 2010-11
On Wednesday 18th May, the U.14 Boys’ team defeated Kinsale C.S. in the final of the Munster Tennis Shield. The team of Andrew Duncan and Bill O’Brien (singles), Liam Fahey and Jorge Martin (doubles) won each of their matches.
The Boys’ U.19 team was defeated by Col.Muire Cobh in the final of the Munster Schools’ Cup. Eamonn Morrissey and Jeanluca Lluch (singles), Jack Marshall and Richard Kennedy (doubles) were each beaten in their respective matches.
The girls’ Under 19 team qualified for the semi-final of the Munster Shield competition when the team of Tiziana Muscolino, Aine O’Dwyer, Orlagh Heffernan and Kate Heffernan defeated Doon 3-0 on Tuesday 3rd May. However, the team was defeated by Kinsale C.S. by the same score on Monday 9th May.
The boys’ Under 16 team was defeated by Clonmel H.S. in the quarter-final of the Shield when it was defeated 3-0 at Hillview on Wednesday 4th May. The team was: Juan Gometza and Niall Murphy (singles), Denis O’Connell and Luis Calderon (doubles).
The boys’ Under 19 team qualified for the final of the Munster Cup by defeating Ard Scoil Ris by 3 matches to 1 with one match not completed. Eamonn Morrissey and Gianluca Lluch won their singles matches, and Gianluca and Richard Kennedy won the reverse doubles. Eamonn and Jack Marshall were tied at one set each when their reverse doubles was suspended.
The boys’ Under 14 team defeated Glenstal by 3 matches to 2. Bill O’Brien won his singles as did the Liam Fahey/Jorge Martin doubles partnership. In the reverse doubles, Liam teamed up with Andrew Duncan to secure a place in the final on Wednesday 18th May.
Tennis team in Munster Senior final
Played in Limerick lawn on Friday, 13th. May Rockwell senior boys defeated Ard SCoil Ris of Limerick by 3 matches to 1 in the semi-final to reach the Munster final for the first time in 20 years in this premier competition for tennis.
Eamonn Morrissey ( Cashel) + Jeanluca Kluch (Spain) won their singles, while Richard Kennedy( Tipperary) and Jeanluca won the reverse doubles. Eamonn Morrissey and Jack Marshal( Cashel) lost their singles.
Also in Limerick on the same day Rockwell juniors defeated Glenstal by 3 matches to 2 in the Munster Junior Shield semi-final. Team: Andrew Duncan ( Clonmel), Bill O'Brien( New Inn), Liam Fahey ( New Inn), Jorge Martin ( Spain)
The boys’ U.14 team played CBC in Cork on Friday 8th April. Team: Andrew Duncan, Bill O’Brien, Liam Fahey and Jorge Martin. The team won each of their five matches.
On Monday 21st March, the Girls’ U.19 team was defeated by St.Angela’s Ursuline College Waterford 4 matches to 1. The team was: Tiziana Lluch, Aine O’Dwyer, Orlagh Heffernan and Kate Benson. Tiziana was Rockwell’s only winner, winning 3/6, 6/3 and 10/6 in the Championship tie-break.
On Friday 25th March, the Boys’ U.16 team was defeated by Newtown School, Waterford, in Cashel. Team was: Niall Murphy, Juan Gometza, Luis Calderon and Denis O’Connell. While Juan was the only winner, each of the other matches went to championship tie-breaks. Newtown won by 3-1, with one match not completed.
The Boys U.19 team had a 5/0 match victory over Patrician College Mallow on Monday 28th March. There were wins for Eamonn Morrissey and Gianluca Lluch (singles), Jack Marshall and Richard Kennedy (doubles), Eamonn and Jack, Gianluca and Richard (reverse doubles).
On Thursday 31st March, the Girls’ U.19 team defeated Castletroy by 5 matches to 0.. The team was the same as the team which played St.Angela’s with the exception of Kate Heffernan who joined her sister in the doubles.

Played in Cashel on the 10th March, the second round of the Under 19 Boys’ Cup competition (Round-robin format), brought Rockwell up against De La Salle Waterford Rockwell won by 3 matches to 2, with Eamonn Morrissey winning his singles and reverse doubles with Jack Marshall, while Jack and Richard Kennedy won their doubles match. Richard and the other singles player, Gianluca Lluch, were beaten in a tie-break in the other reverse doubles.
In Cashel on the 8th March, Rockwell Girls’ U.19 team played St.Joseph’s, Doon, winning by 4 matches to 1. Tiziana Lluch, Aine O’Dwyer and Orlagh and Kate Heffernan won their opening matches, while Tiziana and Kate won the ‘reverse’ doubles.
In the first round of the Under 19 Boys’ Cup competition (Round-robin format), Rockwell defeated PBC Cork by 3 matches to 2. Eamonn Morrissey and Gianluca Lluch won their singles matches, while Jack Marshall and Richard Kennedy were defeated in their doubles match. Gianluca and Richard won the reverse doubles in a championship tie-break.
At Hillview on the 2nd March, Rockwell defeated High School Clonmel in the first round of the U.14 Boys Shield. Rockwell won all five matches. Team: Andrew Duncan and Bill O’Brien (singles), Liam Fahey and Jorge Martin (doubles). Andrew & Liam, and Bill and Jorge played the reverse doubles.
