Tennis 2009-'10
The Boys Under 19 team was beaten by Carrigaline C.S. in the Munster Schools’ Shield Competition on Thursday 15th April. The team was beaten by 3 matches to 1, with the fifth match not being completed. The doubles team of Mark O’Connell and Darragh McEniry won their match (6/1, 6/3); Liam Marshall (6/7, 2/6) and Richard Kennedy (5/7, 6/3, 7/5) were beaten in their singles match as was Liam and Darragh in the reverse doubles.
The Boys Under 16 team played John the Baptist School, Hospital, in the Munster Schools’ Cup Competition on Friday 16th April. The team of Eamonn Morrissey (singles), Jack Marshall (singles), Piers Benson and Niall Murphy (doubles) won the match 3-0. They have now qualified for the semi-finals where their opponents will be either Colaiste Muire Cobh, Patrician Academy Mallow or St.Anne’s Community College, Killaloe.
The boys Under 16 team played PBC ‘B’ team in Cashel on Friday 19th March. The team was: Eamonn Morrissey, Jack Marshall, Piers Benson and Niall Murphy. Eamonn and Jack won their singles; Pierse and Niall won their doubles. The team has now qualified for the Cup Competition.
The boys Under 19 team played CBS Tramore in Tramore on Thursday 11th March. Each of their three matches were lost. The singles matches were played by Liam Marshall and Richard Kennedy; while the doubles match involved Darragh McEniry and Mark O’Connell. Tramore now go ahead into the Cup Competition. Rockwell has to settle for the Shield Competition.
